EVENTS FOR THE YEAR 2011

 

The 10th Kalinga Mahotsav was organized by Orissa Tourism in collaboration with Art Vision and Orissa Dance Academi at Dhauli hill on the 13th and 14th of December 2011. The participating groups were:

- Dewandaru Dance Company from Japan directed by Rianto presenting Shadowing the Body inspired by the shapes and Martial Arts movements, characters and motifs found in traditional Javanese shadow puppets and Martial arts. The work discovers freedom within the very constraints of the puppet and Silat (Indonesia Martial arts)movements. It includes opposite qualities of movement like alus (lasya - refined) and keras (tandava – vigorous)

- Mayurbhanji Chhau Dance from Rairangpur, directed by Trilochan Mohanty -Sapphire Creations from Kolkata, directed by Sudarshan Chakravarty, performing PANCHA-PRANA, a contemporary choreography based martial art movements, western ballet and classical Indian dances.

- Huyen Lallong Tang-Ta Cultural Associatios, from Manipur, directed by Gourakishor Sharma, presenting traditional items of Manipur martial art Thang-Ta.


The 9th Kalinga Mahotsav a National Festival of Martial Arts was held at the historically significant Dhauli hills on the bank of River Daya near Bhubaneswar, on the 10th and 11th of January 2011. The participating troupes were:

1- Stem Dance Company directed by Madhu Nataraj from Bangalore with Vajra.
2- Mayurbhanji Chhau Nrutya Prathisthan with Chhau Dance.
3- Chandramani and party from Manipur with Manipuri Martial Art.
4- Somnath Singh and party from Budha Panka, Anugul and Rani Sukadei Akhada, Talcher directed by Sobhangini Devi with Paika Dance.


22nd April- Art Vision presented Karuna, an Odissi dance presentation inspired by Mother Theresa’s life. Choreography by Dr Ileana Citaristi. The program was hosted by ICCR at Azad Bhawan Auditorium, New Delhi

8th April 2011 Art Vision organized Remembering Guruji on the occasion of the 7th death anniversary of Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra at Rabindra Mandap, Bhubaneswar

    Art Vision artists performing Mana Bhanjan

Art Vision has organized the 7th Sangam Festival on the 24th of August 2011. This year the new production presented by Art Vision performing unit was “Mana Bhanjana’ an Odissi dance-drama based on the original script by Babaji Vaishnav Charan Das and Mohan Sunder Dev Goswami. The story of the offended Radha, seductive Chandrabali and repentant Krishna, who undergoes different disguises in order to win back Radha’s trust, is a classic belonging to the preliminary stage of the Odissi revival. The present choreography is by Ileana Citaristi, music by Laxmikanta Palit and rhythm by Sachidananda Das.

The guest troupe is the Kathak group from Padatik Dance Centre, Kolkatta presented “Jhalkiyan’. The production covered the vast gamut of the elements of Kathak Dance. Choreography by Chetna Jalan and music by Vijay Shankar.
