Art
Vision was founded in the year 1996 by Smt. Ileana Citaristi along with
a group of artists belonging to different disciplines such as dance,
painting , cinema and literature who wanted to have a common ground for
sharing experiences and creative ideas. During these years Art Vision
has already conducted several events which reflect its multi
disciplinary nature. In October 1996 a two days "Festival of Arts for
Environment" was organised at the Adivasi ground in Bhubaneswar.
Here different forms of art like painting, photography , dance and
theatre were brought together to express through their respective medium
their concern about environmental issues.
A
three days
"Festival of films on performing and visual
arts" has been organised by
Art Vision yearly since 1996. This Festival is unique in its kind and
has become a much awaited event in the cultural scene of the State
Capital. During this Festival artists and students of art from various
disciplines find an opportunity to meet and witness cinematic
masterpieces on the life and work of classical dancers, musicians,
painters and actors. More than forty films have already been shown
directed by eminent directors such as Satyajit Ray, Mani Kaul, Kumar
Sahani, Gautam Ghosh and Gulzar.
Besides this, Art Vision
is also organising cultural functions in its own mini-auditorium
situated on the picturesque bank of the sacred Bindu Sagara lake in the
old Bhubaneswar. During these functions, less known art forms such as
'gotipua' dance, 'das katia', 'raas leela', 'Radha
prema leela' , 'Ram leela', 'Bharat leela', Geeti Natya' and 'Leela
Danda' folk theatre have been presented.
Art Vision has organised
the special package of films on dance called 'Dance
with the Camera' as part of the Mumbai International
Film Festival 2002 , 2004 and 2006. Since 2003 it has been the main
architect behind the
Kalinga Mahotsav event, a national festival of
martial arts, which is taking place at the foothill of the Shanti Stupa
in Dhauli Giri, situated on the outskirt of Bhubaneswar. Since 2006 Art
vision is organising
Sangam, a confluence of dance, on 5th of September (guru
dibasa) in homage to all the gurus who have inspired us. This festival
sees the participaiion of two different styles of dance with innovative
group choreographies. In 2008 a new festival was organised titled
Remembering Guruji. This festival will be held every year on
the 7th of April which is the death anniversary of Guru Kelucharan
Mohapatra.
Art
Vision Dance Academi runs dance classes in Odissi and Mayurbhanji Chhau
conducted by renown dancer Padmashree Dr.Ileana Citaristi for local
students and
workshops
for visiting students, for whom hostel facilities are provided in the
same compound. The Academy is receiving salary grants for three artists
and for the Guru from Ministry of Culture, Govt. of india since 1998.
Regular Odissi dance programs are presented by the Academi students for
group of visiting tourists, who have the opportunity to round off their
visit to the historical temples of old Bhubaneswar by witnessing a live
performance of this lyrical dance in its natural settings. The senior
dance students of the Academi have already presented performances in
various important cities of India like Bangalore, Mysore, Vijayawada,
Mumbai, Mangalore, Kolkata, Puri, Konarka and Bhubaneswar.
